This is a great book for kids, as they will be able to better understand their own emotions!

While I have yet to see the Inside Out movie, this was a great retelling of the movie from the perspectives of the characters. I loved seeing the differences between the characters and so did my girls. It was so unique to see how you see the world in different ways based on what emotion is seeing the situation. This is a great book for kids, as they will be able to better understand their own emotions!

This is a gorgeous hard-cover book my kids like looking at. It's a bit above their age range, but would be the perfect gift for a school-age child working to sort out all the emotions they are dealing with!

then Disgust, then Fear

I would give it three and a half stars.to four.
I assume it tells the whole movie story but just paraphrasing. The whole book is about the five emotions first-person point of views of the story. It goes from Joy's point of view of the story, then Disgust, then Fear, then Anger, and then Sadness. Although the concept was original, It was not necessary to have all the emotions point of views. I can understand Joy's and Sadness's retelling because they are the main characters of the plot.
But, the other three were just retelling of the same story (Of them without Joy and Sadness) only with some small changes. It became extremely boring but I read through them. To make it more boring it was all in paraphrase and not a feeling of individual stories. Plus, the book was too long and stretch everything except the main characters stories.
I wish it went from Joy and Sadness to short few pages of the other three or had them all together and use third person omniscient.

Growing up in the 1940s on his family's gracious Southern California ranch, young Villaseñor envisions a cowboy's life, just like he's seen in western movies and learned from his loving but occasionally abrasive Mexican-born papá. Reality, however, finds him in the unwelcome company of an American school system where he doesn't fit in and is ostracized thanks to his undiagnosed dyslexia and limited English. Throughout this spirited memoir, novelist and nonfiction writer Villaseñor (who has chronicled his family history in Rain of Gold; Wild Steps of Heaven; Thirteen Senses; etc.) faces an entourage of abusive teachers and embittered classmates who chip away at his confidence, leading him to the brink of adopting a personal philosophy of violence-for-respect. He seeks support in the strength of his close-knit family, especially his brother Joseph. But when Joseph dies of a rare, unexplained disease, Villaseñor tries to embody what made his brother such a hero. Outstanding Book and great storytelling.

Victor's storytelling magic lies in his very natural ability to make you feel as if you are 'right there' as an observor or silent participant in the experiences and adventures he is describing. His stories are treasures because they take his Latino readers back to their own lives in this country AND they offer non-Latino readers a golden opportunity to experience life as seen through the eyes of an immigrant. This particular book, BURRO GENIUS, is just such a story. The key to understanding and feeling what Victor writes about is to try and 'check your cultural baggage at the door' and experience the stories with a clean canvas.
