Beautiful and Powerful

The Princess Saves Herself in This One is a collection of poetry in four parts: the princess, the damsel, the queen, and you. Honestly, I have a hard time calling this poetry because it’s more than that. This collection is raw emotion and life experiences manifested as words. It’s pain, suffering, self-reflection, self-discovery, love, loss, and more. I could spend years reading and re-reading it, carefully editing this draft, and I still wouldn’t be able to do it justice.

As I read this, I had a couple of thoughts between sudden outbursts of tears. One was that I hadn’t read a collection of poetry that I related to and felt the words so deeply since my first encounter with Sylvia Plath’s poetry when I was a teenager. The second was that I probably should have read it with tissues and wine.

I’ve had book hangovers before, but what I’m experiencing after reading The Princess Saves Herself in This One isn’t a book hangover, it’s a haunting. The words won’t leave me, and I’m ok with that. I bought the Kindle edition of this because A) I could have it and read it faster, and B) money was tight when I bought it. But, I think I’m going to order a physical copy ASAP because I want this on my poetry shelf. Something this important, something that touched my life in the way this book did (which I can’t convey in words, so I’m not going to try)… it deserves a spot on my shelf. I’m certain this will be something I read again…and again.

A MUST READ (Very Powerful Poetry!)

(I have a feeling that this will be on my top 2016 books)

I kept seeing this book around, so when it was free on Amazon I decided why not try it out? I AM SO INCREDIBLY GLAD I DID! This book was incredibly powerful, it is just.... so so SO powerful. But more on that later, first here is the summary!

The Princess Saves Herself in this one is divided into four separate parts, The Princess, The Damsel, The Queen and You. I don't read poetry books often, honestly, I don't like poetry all that much. The only other poetry book I read was Poisoned Apples, which like this book dealt with some heavy topics, although Poisoned Apples was more of a feminist book... I'm not entirely sure how to review poetry, so I wrote down some thoughts for each part, but first, here's the short of it!

In its entirety:

This book deals with some heavy topics, but they are IMPORTANT issues like anorexia, depression, and abuse just to name a few.
The poetry was just so... AMAZING. I can't explain it but the way the words moved was fast paced but oh so interesting and I just could not put this book down. It was captivating and heart breaking but near the end, it became warm/had a good message.
The Princess Saves Herself in this One started off very dark, and sad but near the end things get better. Like I said, the message was FANTASTIC (I think I'm going to buy it!)
Very short and quick read, so people with not a lot of time can finish it in about an hour! SHARE IT with others!

The Princess:

This is probably one of the darkest beginnings I've ever read. But in the summary, it says that the first three parts are the authors life and the final is a message to the reader. The Princess (from what I picked up) deals with Anorexia, depression and bullying.
Though this was really dark, it was POWERFUL and I can't say that enough. This book nearly brought me to TEARS. The message was just so GOOD and I just CANT explain how AMAZING this one, honestly, everyone should read it. The YOU part is what got to me the most D: well, all four parts go to me....

The Damsel:

My interpretation of this was young love and broken hearts.
There as a LOT of loss in this chapter, a LOT and I was close to crying. I'm not a fan of poetry, but this poetry was so beautifully worded and pieced together and it made me feel things. It (not this section) made me smile/feel victorious and cry (this chapter DID make me cry!)

The Queen:

This section was about loving yourself, and growing stronger.
THIS is where the book starts to get a lighter feel and like all three other sections, was POWERFUL (I can't say that enough D:

Some experimental results (the discovery of neutral currents and of the W± and Z0 bosons; the quark structure observed using deep inelastic scattering experiments) show the necessity of an evolution of the formalism. This motivates a more detailed description of the weak and strong interactions, of the Standard Model of the microcosm with its experimental tests, and of the Higgs mechanism. The open problems in the Standard Model of the microcosm and macrocosm are presented at the end of the book. For example, the CP violation currently measured does not explain the matter­-antimatter asymmetry of the observable universe; the neutrino oscillations and the estimated amount of cosmological dark matter seem to require new physics beyond the Standard Model. A list of other introductory texts, work reviews and some specialized publications is reported in the bibliography.

This book aims to provide the basis of theoretical foundation and phenomenological knowledge of the structure of matter at the subatomic level. It starts by presenting the general concepts at the simplest level and does not require previous knowledge of the field, except for the basic quantum mechanics. The readers are gradually introduced to the increasingly more advanced topics, so that this text can accompany students all the way to their graduate and doctoral studies in experimental high-energy physics.
Special emphasis is placed on experimental and phenomenological aspects of the field and how measurements and theory interplay in the development of particle physics. The book is based on the authors’ undergraduate and graduate lecture courses at the University of Bologna, Italy.

About the Author
Giorgio M. Giacomelli became full professor of Physics in 1971. He is (co)author of > 650 publications in scientific journals and over 350 reports and conference proceedings. He supervised 115 Laurea Theses, 30 PhD Theses.  He received prizes from the Italian Physical Society, the University of Bologna and from the A. Della Riccia Foundation. He is “Marchigiano of the year 2006”. In 1981 the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) listed him in the “1000 Contemporary Scientists Most-Cited in 1969-78". He is presently in the Highly Cited list of ISI.
He was Director of the Institute of Physics, of the Department of Physics (1975-88) and President of the Laurea in Physics Committee of the University of Bologna. He was a member of many national and international scientific committees (SPSC, LEPC and ECFA at CERN, HEP at Fermilab, of INFN, of the ENI foundation, of CTS of ENEA, bioethics of CNR, of the Galvani Committee). Presently he is Emeritus Professor at the University of Bologna, collaborator of INFN and CERN, Fellow of the American Physical Society, Socio Benemerito of the Italian Physical Society, member of the European Physical Society, of the Accademia delle Scienze di Bologna, of the New York Academy of Sciences, and the Accademia Teatina. He is one of the Editors of the Journal “Astroparticle Physics”.

Excellent primer - looking forward to an expanded 2nd edition

Excellent for putting most of particle physics together. But relativity and quantum physics are not included in particle physics presented. So I am not sure of the completeness of the material. Instantaneous properties, gravity, source of fringe patterns ... are not related to the fundamental interactions so there definitely room for another edition to be written.

He attended Baptist Secondary Modern School, Igboho, Oyo State, Nigeria and graduated in 1978. The same year he became a personal secretary to Rev. Father James M. Sheerin of Ireland at the National Missionary Seminary Of St. Paul, (NSSP) Iperu Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria. He attended the Adventist Seminary of West Africa (ASWA) between 1981 and 1988. He became literature evangelist between 1984 and 1990 in Nigeria and in Sweden. He graduated with BA Religion/Business in June 1988 and with MA Curriculum & Instruction in Britain in June 1990. He got his AD Nusing in December 1995 and Ph.D. Educational Administration and Supervision in U.S.A. in May 2000. He is curently working on a licensure as a certified Nursing Home Administrator. Between 1995 and 2000, he worked as staff and charge nurse of various hospitals, nursing homes, and behavioral centers. He became the president and CEO of Wholistic Home Health Assisted Living and Adult Foster Care Inc. Niles, MI, in 1996. He is an Adjunct Lecturer in the department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Southwestern Michigan College since 2003. He is an instructor of First Aid, CPR, and AED with American Red Cross from 2003 to present. He is an Elder and currently directing Health and Temperance and Coronary Health Improvement Project, (CHIP) of Seventh-Day Adventist Church, South Bend Chapter. He was awarded "The All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) Merit", February 2006. He is a member of the American Red Cross, Michigan Assisted Living Association, Michigan and Indiana Nurses Associations, American Higher Education and Leadership Association, and Michigan Long Term Care Partnership.
