GREAT METHOD WITH A COMPLICATED AUDIO SEQUENCE!
I am Jack Richards' big fan and I have read some of his books, including theoretical ones, like PRACTICE TEACHING - A REFLECTIVE APPROACH (Cambridge).
I have used all levels of Interchange former editions (with cassettes), and New Interchange (with videotapes), and I ordered the fourth edition because of audio CD. To tell you the truth, I'm disappointed with it. There isn't a clear indication for dialog sequence in audio CD. It's hard to follow it. The listenings in audio CD are different from the book dialogs. I know they are for complementary practice, but I wish I could listen to the book conversation too.
But it does not mean the book is a bad one. Actually, I love Jack Richards' methods and I have used them a lot. They help me to explain my students how to teach English as a foreign language.
All Interchange volumes bring a PLAN OF BOOK (in the beginning) with language four skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) integrated, English grammar and language functions through interesting topics. Then, they are perfect to advise my students how to plan their English lessons, using those PLAN OF BOOK to clarify language functions.
Besides all that, the teacher's edition provides several extra activities and suggested answers to the student's exercises.
This fourth edition also has a CD-ROM to students' practice.
All Interchange methods have a workbook and student's book too, besides aural devices.
I have already used Richars' (NEW) PERSON TO PERSON too, and it was easy to follow the aural exercises, because it had the tapescript written in the book. So I could choose the unit I wanted quickly.
If I had any chance, I would dare to suggest Professor Jack Richards think about adding a DVD to his fifth edition with interesting subjects and diverse events like lectures, talk shows and other academic activities, providing a table of contents to DVD listening, of course.
I'm looking forward Richards' new edition with DVD and (an advanced level) book for academical purpose, because I
teach English to university students (of different courses), and it's difficult to adquire modern methods with updated topics and interesting issues in high level in Brazil. I mean, with good audio (native speakers) to practice both oral and written English.
I would appreciate any reviewers' suggestion. Thanks.

In buying this textbook I combined it with the student's . I then realized that they don't actually go hand in hand.

The Book is excelente but I find the dvd that accompanied it incomplete. It doesnt have any of the listening exercises that are in the lessons. Tried to contact the publisher but received no response.

Useful for Portrait Practice For Adult Artists

If you're an artist needing to develop your skill in shading and coloring skin tones- this book might help since only manga artists seem to be making coloring books that work for this type of practice with decent art work. Large pages with detailed drawings that will take several layers of colored pencil for shading- not for everyone but good if you're trying to hone your skills for portrait work. Practice brings better skills- try different shading and tones. Color on.

Great Supplement Guide to Leaning French

I bought Rosetta Stone and I like it, but it doesn't explain any of the rules. (You're supposed to "absorb" the language). I was often left confused as to the how's and why's. French for Dummies has come in incredibly handy. I read the first three chapters and then I've randomly looked about if I have any questions. It's answered them all.

Probably not great on its own, but as a supplement to another learning system, it's great! They also offer some neat tricks to remembering some of the very confusing rules of French.

Audio could be better

This book is ok.
What I mainly do not like about it is the audio.
It is set up so that the recording says something, it pauses for you to repeat, and then the recording continues. It would be easier for someone trying to learn if the pauses were more spaced out. For example, they say "Bonjour Marie" and pause. Then you are supposed to repeat that. That is easy enough and not really necessary in my opinion. Then they say a 13 word sentence and expect you to repeat all of that back. A pause in the middle of that long sentence would be much more helpful than a pause after Bonjour!

Good for beginning and intermediate students

I wish I had had this book when I started French lessons, several years ago. It explains the rules of French grammar in very simple, understandable, terms. It covers everything you need to assist you in learning to speak and write French well. It explains the many nuances in the French sentence structure, which makes understanding the language easier. It's a great reference to use when you are taking French lessons!
